Poetic inquiry is a rising area of qualitative arts-based inquiry that makes use of poetry as analysis, in analysis and for analysis. It combines poetry with analysis in progressive methods to supply significant, emotive and artistic texts that signify lived experiences and interact wider and extra various audiences than these usually reached by standard educational outputs.

The symposium shall be held beneath the general theme, Intersections of Silence and (In)visibility

In accordance with the convener of the convention, the HSRC’s Professor Heidi van Rooyen, intersectionality affords a framework for understanding how inequalities are skilled, usually exponentially.

“By way of this lens we will discover how diversities of race, class, gender, sexuality and others, can lead to unfair exclusion and unearned inclusion, making lives (in)seen to ourselves, others and the group,” says Van Rooyen.

The convention will run over 4 days with the primary day (24 Could 2022) devoted to interactive classes and workshops.

“We’ll conclude the day with a poetic journey by means of the town of Cape City that can introduce delegates to its histories, folks and cultures and permit for reflection and writing,” provides Van Rooyen.

The formal convention will run from 25 to 27 Could 2022 with every day of the principle convention classes centred round three themes, specifically,

– Voices and silences;

– Poetry as figuring out; and

– Poetry as studying.

Professor Van Rooyen believes that poetry’s capability to distil and encourage, contact hearts and shift considering – practised all through historical past, in each tradition and on each continent – supplies a technique to mirror on how some lives are buffered by privilege whereas many stay trapped in layers of want. “The COVID-19 pandemic has laid naked these fault traces even additional,” she says.
